¡Lectores, apunta la fecha! House of Puerto Rico San Diego’s Puerto Rican book club has a November 17, 2026, discussion on Zoom. The selection is The Time It Snowed in Puerto Rico by Sarah McCoy, and you do not need to be a member to attend. Here’s a community plan you can join without a drive to San Diego.

What’s The November Book About?
Set in Puerto Rico in 1961, McCoy’s novel follows eleven-year-old Verdita Ortiz-Santiago as she navigates growing up, family expectations and dreams of a different life. The publisher’s description places her coming-of-age story against the island’s political tensions and questions of home and belonging.
For your own reading notes, consider what home means to Verdita and how her hopes clash with the future others imagine for her. Those are our suggested reflection points, not an announced organizer discussion agenda.
Membership And Borrowing Books
House of Puerto Rico distinguishes attending the discussion from borrowing books: nonmembers may join the book club, while checking out selections from the Casita library requires current membership. This discussion takes place on Zoom, not at the Casita.
