Bay Area familia, make room for Puerto Rican cinema this weekend. One film takes you from Puerto Rico to Taiwan on a search for family and a fresh start. The other brings you into a storm-damaged hotel, where love, memory and the meaning of home are tangled together. Foreigner (Extranjera) and Casa Pura offer two very different reasons to settle into a theater seat and get caught up in a story.

Cine+Más SF is giving away five pairs of general admission tickets for these San Francisco screenings. Five winners will each receive two tickets to their chosen film. Bring someone who loves a good movie, choose the story that draws you in, and enter through our Instagram giveaway post.

Entries close Friday, October 30, 2026, at 12 PM noon Pacific Time. No purchase necessary.

CaliRicans ticket giveaway for five winners: Foreigner on October 31 at 3 PM PDT or Casa Pura on November 1 at 5:30 PM PST at Apple Cinemas Van Ness in San Francisco.

Foreigner: How Far Can You Go to Start Over?

Official Foreigner (Extranjera) film poster

Imagine leaving Puerto Rico for Taiwan, hoping distance might give you a little room to breathe. That is where artist and teacher Estefanía “Epa” Urriga finds herself after her father becomes the subject of a corruption investigation. She is searching for her estranged mother, but new friendships and the possibility of a different life begin pulling her in another direction.

There is an appealing promise in starting over somewhere new. Epa still has to decide what to confront, what to leave behind and how to tell her own story. If you are drawn to complicated family ties, questions of belonging and characters trying to find their footing far from home, Foreigner deserves a place on your weekend plans.

Written and directed by Michelle Malley Campos and filmed between Puerto Rico and Taiwan, the drama stars Aris Mejías alongside a cast that includes Patricia Reyes Spíndola and Daniel Lugo. Cine+Más SF lists this screening as its U.S. premiere.

See it: Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 3 PM PDT at Apple Cinemas Van Ness.

Casa Pura: What Do We Hold On to When Home Changes?

A hurricane has left a boutique hotel in ruins. The man trying to hold it together is also grieving his wife, and a missing will draws him further into the effort to preserve what she left behind. As memories become part of that search, saving a building becomes a much more personal question.

Casa Pura invites you into that space between holding on and moving forward. For anyone who has felt how deeply a place can carry the people we love, its story of loss and attachment to home offers plenty to connect with. Make it a Sunday movie outing with someone you will want to talk it over with afterward.

Bruno Irizarry writes and directs this Puerto Rican drama, with a cast including Jencarlos Canela, Laura Aleman and Camila Monclova. Cine+Más SF lists the showing as its West Coast premiere.

See it: Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 5:30 PM PST at Apple Cinemas Van Ness. Daylight saving time ends that morning.

Two Stories, One Movie-Loving Weekend

You might come for the chance to win tickets and leave with two films on your list. Foreigner offers an outward journey toward a possible new beginning; Casa Pura turns toward the memories and places that keep us connected. Together, they are an invitation to see Puerto Rican stories on a San Francisco screen.

Both films screen at Apple Cinemas Van Ness, 1000 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94109, during the 18th Cine+Más San Francisco Latino Film Festival. The giveaway prize covers one chosen film. If you would like to attend both, each has a separate ticket listing through the official Cine+Más SF film guide and tickets.
