About Sol Food – San Rafael
Sol Food’s journey began in 2004 at the 4th St. Farmer’s Market in downtown San Rafael, where it introduced the community to authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. After two successful market seasons and a growing following, the owners opened their first restaurant on 4th Street. Just two years later, they expanded to their larger location on Lincoln Avenue, where Sol Food continues serving the Bay Area today.
Known for its flavorful comida criolla and welcoming atmosphere, Sol Food has become one of Northern California‘s best-known destinations for Puerto Rican food. The menu features a variety of traditional favorites, including mofongo, bistec encebollado, arroz, beans, tostones, maduros, Cuban sandwiches, jíbaro sandwiches, and many other island specialties.
Fun Fact
In 2022, Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny visited Sol Food in San Rafael with members of his tour while in the Bay Area for his Oakland concert. The visit was featured on the restaurant’s social media and covered by local news outlets.
